Cybersecurity & Its Importance for Modern World

Cyber Security

Cybersecurity is a made of two words cyber & Security. Cyber means internet-connected systems and security means protection. Cybersecurity is the protection of internet connected systems such as data, software and hardware from the hackers. In other words protection of information which is stored in our hard-drives, servers and datacenters from cyberthreats known as cybersecurity.

Importance of Cybersecurity

Today’s world is more dependent on technology than ever before. With an increasing number of internet users, devices and programs in modern enterprises, huge amount of data is generated everyday. This include our sensitive data, personally identifiable information (PII), protected health information (PHI), personal information, intellectual property, data, and governmental and industry information systems. To protect all these data from cyberthreator hackers we need cybersecurity.

Without a cybersecurity program, our organization cannot defend itself against data breach campaigns, making it an irresistible target for cyberthreats.

Benefits of cybersecurity

  • Business protection from cyberattacks and hackers.
  • Networks protection from cyberattacks.
  • Privacy of customer and employee is ensured.
  • Sensitive Data(PII & PHI) protection from hackers.
  • Prevent from unauthorized people or users.
  • Reduced the risk in organization.
  • Improved RTO (recovery time objective) after data breach.
  • Improved organization’s reputation.
  • Help in business continuation.

Different types of cybersecurity threats

Malware: Software designed to infiltrate a computer system and possibly damage it without the user’s knowledge or consent. Examples

  • Viruses: Malicious code that runs on a machine without the user’s knowledge and infects the computer when executed.
  • Worm: Malicious software, like a virus, but is able to replicate itself without user interaction.
  • Trojan Horse: Malicious software that is disguised as a piece of harmless or desirable software.
  • Ransomware: Malware that restricts access to a victim’s computer system until a ransom is received. Ransomware uses a vulnerability in your software to gain access and then encrypts your files.
  • Spyware: Malware that secretly gathers information about the user without their consent.
  • Adware: Displays advertisements based upon its spying on you.
  • Grayware: Software that isn’t benign nor malicious and tends to behave improperly without serious consequences.
  • Spam: Activity that abuses electronic messaging systems, most commonly through email. Spammers often exploit a company’s open mail relays to send their messages

Unauthorized Access: Occurs when access to computer resources and data occurs without the consent of the owner.

System Failure: Occurs when a computer crashes or an individual application fails.

Social Engineering: Act of manipulating users into revealing confidential information or performing other detrimental actions.

  1. Neat blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog stand out. Please let me know where you got your design. Cheers

  2. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I’m looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
